【THINK SOUTH FOR THE NEXT 2020】
環境と世界平和の大切さ、チャレンジスピリットの重要性を社会への発信するため、各国から集まった6人の冒険家が世界初となる南極犬ぞり横断を成し遂げたのは1989年のこと。その偉業から30年目の節目となった昨年、6名の冒険家が一堂に会するシンポジウムを開催し、彼らのメッセージを改めて東京から世界に届けました。
2020年の舞台はデジタル環境と京都議定書の採択地・京都です。31年前、冒険家たちが南極点に到達した日である「THINK SOUTHの日」にオンラインイベントを行うほか、多様な作風と表現方法によって生まれた芸術作品を通して環境問題のメッセージをより多くの人に届けます。昨年とは異なる切り口で表現されるTHINK SOUTH FOR THE NEXT2020に是非ご参加ください。

国境のない南極大陸を国籍も文化圏も違う6人の冒険家たちが協力し合って横断し、世界にメッセージを発信した。その過酷な冒険の様子を俯瞰で捉えるのではなく肌身に感じること、そしてそのメッセージをしっかり体の中に入れるための想像力。そのためには心の余白が必要ではないだろうか。深く呼吸をして一瞬の安らぎを得ると、慌ただしい日常の中でも人は「考える」ことができる。そのような音楽を書いてみたいと思った。6つのパートは1つのモチーフをそれぞれ歌い、風景の中に溶け込むように音楽は進んでいく。
世界中がウイルスの脅威に直面している今、約30年前に南極点から出されたメッセージ ー 人はたとえこの困難な状況においても、⺠族、文化、国家をこえて共に生きてゆける ー はこれまで以上に強く、近くで響いている。

In 1989, six adventurers of different nationalities and cultures set out on a journey across Antarctica – a continent with no national borders – to deliver a message to the world. To comprehend the grueling conditions of their adventure – not just view it from a distance but to feel what they went through with every fiber of your being – requires imagination. You might even have to venture to unexplored parts of your own mind. As you take deep breaths and reach a state of serenity, there’s a moment when you are finally freed from the daily bustle to ponder. That’s the kind of music that I wanted to compose. With six parts woven around a single motif, the music flows, as if it were blending in with the natural landscape. Amid the threat of a global pandemic, the message sent from our planet’s far-flung southern reaches by those six adventurers three decades ago – that beyond nationalities and cultures people can live together, even in the most difficult circumstances – resonates even stronger and clearer than ever before.
